I. What is an ISSTD Component Study Group?

An ISSTD Component Study Group is a local or regional group or organization whose mission is consistent with the mission of the ISSTD, i.e., furthering the understanding of, clinical work with, and research and teaching concerning trauma, dissociation and dissociative disorders.

A Component Study Group must meet at least four times a year (Regional Component Societies must meet at least once a year).

Membership of a Component Group is open to at those persons who are eligible to be Members, Student Members, or Retired Members of the ISSTD, i.e., health and mental health professionals or individuals interested in the study of dissociative disorders.

II. Why Join a Component Group?

Various reasons for joining (or starting) an ISSTD Component Study Group have been shared by members. Some of these are as follows. The Study Group provides its members with:

Information which furthers their knowledge and understanding of dissociation and dissociative disorders.

Information which keeps them abreast of recent developments in the field of trauma, dissociation and dissociative disorders.

Access to a group-owned library of articles, conference tapes, and other relevant materials, including the ISSTD Journal of Trauma and Dissociation.

Collegial/peer support in working in this field.

Access to peers knowledgeable in the field with whom consultation may occur.

Access to the newly developing resource manual that provides a variety of ideas found to be helpful by those who have been involved in successful Component Groups across the world.
